The long awaited day has come. Mouri Ran and Mouri Rin, a twin, daughters of Kisaki Eri and Mouri Kogoro, woke up early in the morning to finish all of the house chores faster than usual becuase they've got something extremely to do. They were going to prepare a surprise birthday party for their precious childhood friend, Kudou Shinichi.
Kudou Shinichi is a genius black-haired boy. A son of the famous author, Kudou Yusaku, and the famous actress, Kudou Yukiko. However, there are some field that he's hopeless at. For example, singing. His singing is extremely bad. He's tone deaf. Moreover, he's quite hopeless in anything related to love. He can not even realise that Ran has been helplessly head over heels for him. He's very dense about that. He wont realise unless the whole truth is to be shoved directly into him.
He's got a beautiful younger sister, Kudou Shiho. Shiho has got a waist length strawberry blonde hair and a piercing sapphire eyes. She's a genius as well. But unlike her brother who's absorbed into detectives' work like their father, Shiho is into science. She wishes to be a scientist. That's maybe because she had spent a lot of time with her uncle Miyano Atsushi, aunt Miyano Elena, and big sister Miyano Akemi.
After Ran and Rin finished all their chores, they hurried outside and ran to Agasa Hakase's house to help him decorate the party room. They bought some snacks on their way and they are fully prepared with the presents.
Once they arrive at Agasa Hakase's house, they knocked the door and waited for Hakase to open the door and welcome. As soon the door is open, a big lazy figure is visible to them. Hakase has just woke up from his deep slumber and the traces of drool is still there below his mouth.
"Aw, Hakase! We have to hurry! We've got not much time till the party. Hurry. Hurry" with that Ran pushed him towards the bathroom for him to clean himself.
After that, Ran ran towards Rin and helped her bring the snacks to the party room.
"This party is going to be awesome. We'll surprise Shinichi with this, right, Rin-chan?" asked Ran enthusiastically.
"Hai, Ran-chan. This'll be awesome. I cant wait to see his face. And OH! Shiho-chan will be here soon." replied Rin.
Not long Shiho burst in the door and shouted, "Ohayou, Rin-chan! Ohayou Ran-chan. Wow! It's almost ready. Let me help, okay? Shinichi-niisan will absolutely delighted at this!".
Ran and Rin said in unison, "Ohayou gozaimasu, Shiho-chan.".
Hakase went out the bathroom and he was fully clean, "Oh, you are here, Shiho-kun.".
"Hai, Im here. Now, what can I do to help?!" replied Shiho.
Hakase said, "now, now. Tone down your voice. Shinichi-kun might discover us.".
"Oh, Hakase. No worries. He aint got any clue. He knows nothing about this. I made sure of that. Trust me. Ne?" explained Shiho.
"Very well. You can help us in putting the snacks on the table. Put it nicely. Rin-kun and Ran-kun, can you put up the sign, please? Afterwards, Rin-kun well help me in arranging the presents and Ran-kun will go over next door and call Shinichi-kun here. We'll surprise him. Now, let's do it!" ordered Hakase.
"Haaaaii~!" Shiho, Rin and Ran answerred in unison.
After a while, Ran went over next door to call over Shinichi. She got in the the entrance, entered the house, and then got into Shinichi's bedroom. She saw him sleeping peacefully. 'Ah, he's so sweet sleeping like so peacefully like a baby.' Ran thought. 'I wanna see this for a longer time. No. No. I have to wake him up. We've got a birthday party to surprise him with!'.
With that, Ran shouted, "OHAYOU, SHINICHI!"
Shinichi moved a little. But, he's still asleep.
Seeing that, Ran went to the bathroom and got a bucket full of cold water. She came back to his room and pour the water onto his face.
"What the-? RAN! Why did you do that?" asked Shinichi angrily.
"Ano sa, it's already this late in the afternoon and you are still asleep! I tried to wake you up without water, but you just wont wake up. So, dont blame me." answerred Ran with the same tone Shinichi used. "And we are suppose to go over to Hakase's house today, remember?"
Realising that he forgot about that, he said, "Oh! I almost forgot about that!" and he got hit with the bucket. "Now! What was that for?"
"That is for wasting time! Now, hurry up. We gotta hurry. Rin-chan and Shiho-chan are waiting for us."answerred Ran.
"Hai hai. Im going to change, so get out. Or do you want me to change infront of you?" asked Shinichi mischievously.
Ran went tomato bright and said, "Eh? What did you say? No way! I'll get out. I'll be waiting outside the front door, okay? So, get ready. Fast!". With that, Ran got out of his room and Shinichi was left confused. 'Mattaku, whats with her? Hakase's house is just next door and why was she red? Does she has a fever? That's weird.' Shinichi thought 'Might as well hurry. I dont want to face Ran's wrath.' and with that he changed fastly.
After a moment, he came out fully dressed.
"Oh, you are ready? Lets go!" Ran said and took his hand and drag him to Hakase's house.
They got in and the lights were off.
"Ran, why is it so dark? Lets switch on the lights. You are afraid of dark, right?" Shinichi asked mockingly.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY, SHINICHI?!" and a scary surrounds Ran.
"E..eh? Calm down, Ran! I was just kidding. But, it really is weird that the lights are off and it's so dark because the curtain aren't open. Is Hakase here? Why didnt he open the curtains?" asked Shinichi.
'Why is he asking that much question! It's too much. Detective freak.' Ran thought. "Shinichi, can you just be quiet and follow me?" ordered Ran with a stern voice.
With that, Shinichi was shut and unable to say anything back. 'What's with her? She's being weird!' Shinichi thought.
They walked and walked till they reached a door. Ran approach the door handle and open the door. They both got in and suddenly, the room lit up.
Shinichi was amazed with all the decoration and he read the sign that's hung on the wall, 'Happy 13th Birthday, Kudou Shinichi'. In an instant, Ran turned around and Hakase, Rin, Shiho, Eri, Kogoro, Elena, Atsushi, Akemi, Yuusaku, and Yukiko came out of their hiding spots and shouted, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHINICHI!".
'So, that is what was going on these past few days. Hehe. I almost forgot that it's my birthday today.' Shinichi thought.
"Minna, Arigatou" Shinichi thanked them and went over to them.
"Come on, Shinichi-kun, make a wish and blow the candles." Hakase told him.
"Hai." and Shinichi blew the candles.
Everyone claps for him and then the cakes were cut and were given to everyone. Everyone ate the cake. It was delicious.
Afterwards, Shinichi is opening the present. He got a new full series of detective novels from his dad, a set of detective clothes from his mom, few gadgets from Hakase, some tips for his science studies from Atsushi and Elena, a small stylish handbook from Shiho, a ruby DVD player fully equipped with its headset from Akemi, and a boyish photo stands from Rin. 'Eh? Where's Ran's?' Shinichi wondered. He looked around but he couldnt find any other presents. Ran wasnt there either.
"Arigatou, minna. All of your present were great!" he thanked them with respect.
He decided to wait a little longer. Ran might come. But, to his dismay, she didnt come. After a while, he excused himself and went to the bathroom. When he got out, he notices that the door leading to the roof is widely open. 'Must be Hakase being careless. Might as well, close it for him since he did a lot for me today.' Shinichi thought.
Once he got closer, he caught a glimpse of a small figure laying down on the ground facing the dark blue night sky. His curiousity took control of him and he went closer to the figure quietly. Then, when the cloud has moved away from the moonlight, he saw that it was Ran. Ran was beautiful. The moonlight shone over her making her glisten ever more.
"R...Ran! What are you doing here? No wonder you weren't in the party for quite a while ago." Shinichi said.
"S....Shin..ichi?? W....Why...Why are you here???" Ran muttered.
"Hey! That's suppose to be my line! I asked you first. So you answer me first." Shinichi said.
"Mm...mmmm.. So you noticed I wasnt there for quite a while, huh?" Ran asked.
"Yeah. I did. What's wrong, Ran? Are you okay?" Shinichi said with concern.
Ran had something behind her back on her hand. It was Shinichi's present. "Ano....HERE!" Ran said, holding the gift on her hand and moves it towards Shinichi.
"Ah! You got me a present as well! I thought you got me nothing. Hehe. Thanks, Ran!" and he unconsciously hugged her.
Ran went tomato bright again for the day, "E..e..eh?!" Ran muttered.
Shinichi broke the hug and looked deeply onto her eyes, "Arigatou.." he said.
And when the realisation hit him, he quickly pulled away. "Ano... Sorry for that, Ran" Shinichi said in a low voice.
Ran shakes her head, "No." Ran said.
"It's okay. It really is." Ran continued. 'I have to tell him. It's now or never.' Ran thought.
"Ne, Shinichi. Hear me out, please." Ran said.
"Ran? What's wrong?" Shinichi asked.
Ran continued, "I....I...like you, Shinichi!.... I like you. More than how a friend should." and then tears streams down her cheeks.
"N..no..no..no.. Ran, dont cry, please. I dont know about that yet. Can you give some time to sort out my feelings? So, for now, please, stop crying. It hurts seeing you unhappy. So, chear up. Smile." Shinichi said unsure on what the right thing he should be saying in this kind of moment.
Hearing his words, Ran just couldn't believe what she's hearing. But, she was happy. It feels as if a heavy burden was lifted up from her. Now, it's Shinichi's turn. "Hai. Arigatou." and she hugged him.
After a while, they sat down quietly on the ground. Gazing at the star. The atmosphere around them were really comfortable.
"Ne, Shinichi?" Ran called.
"Yes, Ran?" Shinichi replied.
"Did you open the present from me?" Ran asked.
"Oh the gift! Nope. It's here in my pocket. Can I open it now?" Shinichi asked.
Ran blushes, "s..sure.." she answerred.
Shinichi opens the present wrap and then opens the box. He found inside it a fine football shoes from a famous brand.
Shinichi was astonished. "Sugoi, Ran! How did you get this? This is awesome! Arigatou." Shinichi thanked her.
"Oh do iteshimasita. I got it from the sport store. I heard it was pretty famous so I thought you would like it. Hehe." Ran explained.
Moments later, they have fallen asleep beside each other on the roof. The people from the party has been searching for them for quiet a long time and when they found them, they brought a pair of blanket and cover Ran and Shinichi with one each.
"How sweet~" Shiho, Rin, and Yukiko squeals silently and the others just smiled happily.
